Unreal Engine 5.3 | Halloween Mushroom Jack-O-Lantern | Control Rig and Skeletal Editor

Happy Halloween! As a treat take a look at this Halloween Mushroom Jack-O-Lantern I crafted using the latest iteration of Unreal Engine 5.3. It’s no trick that I was able to leverage the new Control Rig and Skeletal Editor tools, this innovative technology is a game-changer for #environmentart. It streamlines bone creation, rigging, and animation authoring, all within Unreal Engine 5.

With these new tools, I effortlessly transformed a static mesh into a skeletal mesh with just a single click. Adding bones in the Skeletal Editor and painting weights was as intuitive as working with any other software, but the real advantage was the elimination of the need to switch between multiple programs during animation.

This workflow significantly enhances iteration capabilities and accelerates the scene construction process. Although this simple scene merely scratches the surface of the Control Rig and Skeletal Editor toolsets, it’s thrilling to witness how these innovations are already revolutionizing my approach to creating scenes and animations in Unreal Engine 5.

For this project, I used a meticulously crafted character that I sculpted in Zbrush, painted in Substance Painter, and animated in Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, I incorporated a variety of Quixel assets, downloaded directly in-engine via Bridge, allowing me to create this project in just a few days.
